TALENT SHOW IN TERM FOUR   –   SUNDAY OCTOBER 28TH

Our annual concert will be held in October this year, in the same format as previous years, with the aim being to give students the opportunity to perform in a fun, relaxed environment and gain confidence as musicians. We have scheduled it later this year to avoid clashes with students’ end of season sporting events (which all seem to happen in September).

Registration for solo performers will be online and will open during Term Three.

As usual, our group classes will be involved and all private students are invited to participate, regardless of their experience. Please keep in mind that this is first and foremost a concert in which students can showcase their talents to family and friends, and acquire experience on stage.  The prizes are an added bonus and are awarded to a few students who demonstrate a particular musical skill or accomplishment on the day. Talk to your teacher about a song you’d like to perform at the concert and start practicing!

AMEB EXAM RESULTS

Once again, we had a 100% success rate, with all of our students passing their exams for piano and violin in May.

Big congratulations to the following successful students:

Preliminary Grade: Tim Davis (violin), Lacey HoyPoy, Mia Shilkin, Joanna Wang

Grade One: Nina Malkos, Olivia Sayasone (violin)

Grade Two: Annabelle Sein

Grade Three: Jaime Lumbus

Grade Four: Steven Manoharan

Grade Five: Mikayla Ramsay

Special congratulations to Mia Shilkin and Mikayla Ramsay, who both received A+ for their piano exams.

FAREWELL TO JOHN MONDELO

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to John, who has only been teaching piano and vocals at Northside for the past year but has proved very popular with his students. He is a very talented musician, and has been involved in many musical productions in Perth. John has been accepted to complete a musical theatre degree at LaSalle College of the Arts in Singapore. We congratulate him on this achievement and wish him every success with the future.

REMINDER OF OUR POLICIES – MISSED LESSONS / ILLNESS

Firstly, each student will be allowed a maximum of two make up lessons per term. Make up lessons will only be offered to students who give more than 24 hours notice or those who are suffering an injury or illness. If you decide to miss your weekly lesson due to holidays or other social commitments we cannot offer an alternate lesson.

We ask that you arrange your make-up lessons as soon as possible so that teachers are not required to work such long hours in the last weeks of term.

Secondly, if your teacher is unable to teach due to illness etc. and a substitute teacher cannot be found, your lessons will be rescheduled on an alternate day that is suitable to the teacher.

If a substitute teacher is available to take the lessons and you decide not to attend, your lesson is missed and you are not eligible for a make up lesson.

In order to provide an environment free of infection for everyone at Northside we ask that students do not attend lessons if they are unwell. If a student arrives for their lesson and is unwell or has been absent from school due to illness during the day, our staff will ask that the student be taken home.

Also, if a parent or sibling of a student is unwell, please avoid sitting in the waiting room with others. Our receptionists are more than happy to contact you once your child’s lesson is finished so that you can return to collect them.

We hope that you can support these policies and help reduce the spread of illness this winter, Please keep in mind that many of our teachers have families, and are working at other schools so the risk of spreading communicable diseases is high.

Wishing you all a safe, warm and relaxing break over the coming holidays!

~ Belinda
